Family-run Petit Comité (French for tertulia or gathering) has been going from strength to strength since opening in 2012.
The décor and ambiance is immediately welcoming and pleasant. The restaurant comprises several separate dining areas, a front and back section and a connecting passageway with tables on one side and a cosy nook on the other, with a few more rooms recently added including a private dining room and a table inside the “abacería”. Light walls, warm wooden tables and chairs, original floor tiles and ever-changing photos and other artwork very agreeably combine the modern and traditional. As does the food.
The menu is short and sweet. Some tapas are on offer, some “plates” (think media-ración) – it’s not your typical tapas bar. Favourite dishes include perfectly fried boquerones al Tío Pepe and other house specialities like a killer risotto with duck fumet, pumpkin and grilled foie, and super tender carrillada (braised pork cheeks). But the real star dishes for me are the tender octopus with truffle potato purée and egg yolk, and the gorgeous retinto beef meatballs. The wine list has a good selection offered by the glass at reasonable prices, and service is top-notch. Be sure to call ahead and book a table – also check out sister bar Petit Corner next door.
